The princess and the pea

Ahhh, sweet mattress. You are the best of times and the worst of times. Ever since moving into the new house, Hubby has had problems with his back. He went to a chiropractor and a massage therapist with regularity. He insisted his back hurt every morning. I on the other hand woke up rested and peaceful.

Fast forward a few months and I ended up sleeping on his side of the bed and I woke up with a sore back. We switched the bed around and now I'm in such pain I can hardly move. I spent an hour and a half with the massage therapist and now I'm bruised and in pain.

Now we have to decide on a mattress. Anyone have a sleep number bed?

Sounds like our story 3 months ago. We had a TERRIBLE time deciding what to do. Mattresses seem SO overrated! After discussing, researching &, the worst part, facing sales people so we could try some things out here is what we did. We bought an extra-firm mattress (actually pretty cheap). Almost the firmest we could find- feels like a rock. THEN, we bought the $125 memory foam topper from Sams club- OMG we LOVE it!!! Anyways, I feel your pain & hope this helps.....

Our friends with whom we own the condo got a sleep number bed for the master bedroom. We make the kids sleep on it. (it's just an air mattress inside a fancy frame - we definitely don't like it.)

We ended up getting a Nature's Rest mattress for our house a few years ago (latex mattress somewhat similar to the feel of memory foam). It's very comfortable, but was waaaayyyyy too expensive, I think.

Jacy probably has it right. Get a firm mattress from IKEA and get the memory foam topper. (get the actual memory foam brand - some friends of ours have the knock-off kind of memory foam and said it's very hot and sweaty, but they got theirs years ago. Maybe the knock-off technology has gotten better since then.)

We got a Serta firm mattress from Sam's (king size $500) and I ordered a mattress topper for my side only since DH likes his mattress firm. This is the one I ordered:

I didn't realize that I wasn't sleeping until I started sleeping all night again. Back pain is finally starting to recede and I can do stuff again. Yeah!!

Ok, nevermind... I just realized that 12:59pm is not 1:00am. And my blonde isn't even natural. *sigh*

I just came across your post about your mattress and your problems. Did you get something different or are you still in the market? I have some insite I would love to share about my situation if you are still interested. Let me know. [Information only - not a sales pitch, I promise]

Hey
I have a sleep number and LOVE it. My dh has back issues and convinced me to get a memory foam on our last (soft) bed. Well, he woke up one day and could not get up. Nothing like caring for a husband who can't move! Softer is not better for a bad back.

We finally got the sleep number and now we can both sleep. He needs it really firm and I like it softer. What was awesome was that I could make it a little more firm when I was pregnant. Oh, he doesn't snore as much either. So if the baby wasn't waking me up then I would be sleeping like an angel

I have a sleep number bed and it is the best investment we ever made. We love it. I have back issues and was not sleeping at all on a regular mattress. The sleep number has been a godsend for me. I recently fell and the only place I got relief was in my sleep number bed. I stayed in bed almost exclusively for three days! I would recommend the bed to anyone. In fact, my dad is going to buy one because I love mine so much.
