Hope and despair

One of my co-workers is like no one else I've ever met in my life. He is absolutely 100% certain of the future. He thinks he knows exactly what is going to happen and is quite frankly arrogant. Which makes him seem a little crazy. Problem is, I happen to agree to a small degree with what he says. And that irks me. One, because I don't like agreeing with people who have the know it all attitude and two because if what he says is true, the future is quite terrifying. Complete and total collapse of the dollar and society as we know it today.

Re: "... total collapse of the dollar ..."

If the stated value, of “Federal” Reserve notes, declines enough with respect to copper and nickel, the 1946-2009 nickels, composed of cupronickel alloy, could completely disappear from mass circulation.

According to the “United States Circulating Coinage Intrinsic Value Table” available at Coinflation.com, the March 30th metal value of these nickels is “$0.0595636” or 119.12% of face value.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!!!

I think it's possible, but not necessarily probable. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

(...but in a twisted, fatalistic sort of way, I kind of hope it does because the general public of the US needs a kick in the ass to make them start thinking about the real world and not just what's on their iPod and what's their high score on the Wii. But, then again, that's just my judgmental side showing through...) :)

I agree with your friend in that we are headed for a collapse. But I haven't figured out which scenario will start it. 1.) Decreased food production due to climate change or general environmental collapse; 2.) Economic collapse due to our ridiculous national debt and a hyperactive consumer economy; 3.) World War III due to 1.) or 2.) above.

Have a nice day!
